Critical Thinking

Operations Management. Williams J. Stevenson.
Nature is always our best mentor.
The photo illustration was chosen because the stream symbolizes the flow of work through the
system. An important goal for operations systems is to achieve a smooth flow of work through the system. And just as rocks in the stream on the photo disrupt the smooth flow of water and causes turbulence, inefficiencies, variability, and uncertainties in operations systems cause problems that disrupt the smooth flow of work through the system, increasing time and cost, and decreasing productivity and customer service. The flow concept applies not only organizations, but also to their supply chains.

Analogical Reasoning : A Core of Cognition

Electrons are the planets of the atom.
Source (Knowledge) → Target (Unknown)
Analogies have always been considered a central part of human intelligence and cognition. This survey offers an overview of analogical reasoning and its applications, showing that analogies are an important element of various cognitive abilities like memory access, adaptation, learning, reasoning, and creativity. Therefore, analogies can provide a basis for integrated large-scale cognitive systems.
Analogies and Metaphors in Creative Design
In our increasingly flat and connected world, skills in innovation and creative design have
emerged as key attributes for graduating engineering designers. Metaphors and analogies are
commonly voiced as key tools for enhancing creative design yet little research has been
performed on their relation to each other and their use within the design process.
GRE - Analogies

Have you wondered why GRE (Graduate Record Examination) General Test can apply
most of graduates in U.S universities ?
Whether it takes a few sentences or an entire essay to develop an analogy, we should be careful not to push it too far. As we've seen, just because two subjects have one or two points in common doesn't mean that they are the same in other respects as well.

GRE Analogy Example

San Francisco
Compare Boston to San Francisco, both cities have ports, you can not say they are the same due to they own ports, think about the culture, industries ..., they are different. Think further to reveal characteristics of the two objects.
Two objects (such as : two countries, cities, companies, universities, issues ... ) have one or
two in common doesn't mean they are the same in other aspects.

In this article, I collect analogies about engineering connection.

Centrifugal Force - Analogies

Centrifugal Force is always tricky to deal with. Too much centrifugal force, you would be
drawn away from the corner, too little, you would fall down to the ground.
