Cristiano Ronaldo : Tested To The Limit
This amazing documentary explores the idea of mental and physical strength, demonstrating these qualities through some of the most demanding industry tests. In this documentary video we can see how they use " Motion Capture " to analyze the football players.
To test the sprint ability, two parts of challenges.
Right : A straight sprint track (25m) for power.
Left : The zigzag track that designed to measure the speed and agility.
Neal Smith : Bio-mechanics that charged the experiment.
Ángel David Rodríguez : Comparison to C. Ronaldo
3.31 sec
Straight. very linear, not side to side to roll.
2.5 meters
Very long stride land distance
3.61 sec
1.7 meters
Football players need to consider accelerating or decelerating. The changing direction is vital so the zigzag designed to replicate the situation.
6.86 sec
6.35 sec
You can see very big difference between the straight line sprinting (very long stride and high
center of gravity) and C. Ronaldo lowered the center of gravity.
Anticipate the changing of direction. As C. Ronaldo approaches the corner, we can see the
shorter steps.
Compare " red dots " on the ground to the above picture, very different styles.
C. Ronaldo uses both feet to decelerate.
The inside leg is for deceleration, the outside leg is for acceleration.
3D body skeleton. Using the laser beam to creating the body profile.
Jump ability
Measure the force of jumping.
Do not use arms to assist jumping.
Jump force is almost five times of his body weight.
As he jumps, he takes his knees and legs behind his thighs that rising the center of gravity
temporarily and hanging the body in the air.
Eye Trackers
On the replay, the red dot shows what the exactly Ronaldo looking at.
The time of looking the ball is shorter than the defenders so that he can make the right decision.
On the other hand, constantly take his eyes out of the ball, because he is confident to predict the
ball where it was going.
Like learning the language, the more fluent you are, the less time you think.
Which direction is the ball going and calculating the speed and trajectory ??
It turns off the light as Ronaldo kicked the ball into the goal.
C. Ronaldo free kick
3D Motion Capture.
It was used by video games animating. Now, they use " 3D Motion Capture " to analyze Ronaldo
free kick. They can measure how fast his legs is traveling.
By hitting the ball off the center of mass that generates the spin creating the different pressure
between inside the ball and outside the ball.
Turn about 45 degrees counter-clockwise : Cutter
Turn about 60 degrees counter-clockwise : Slider
Turn about 90 degrees counter-clockwise : Curveball
Slider Football
Slider Ball
Knuckle Ball
The ankle touched the center of the ball that generates a little spin.
Difficult to predict the trajectory of the ball.
When the ball is spinning fast, the seams is not effect.
But the ball isn't spinning, the seam can catch the wind on one side than one the other that is just
enough to make the the ball deviate.
Like the bullet hitting the glass
Spectacular.

facilitate to observe the motion and perceive.
